AFL NOTES: Andrae Thurman emerged as the Desperados third receiver in his first AFL season in 2007, and looks to breakout in 2008 after one year of indoor experience under his belt. Thurman signed with the Desperados Jan. 11 and brought three years of professional football experience to Dallas - two years in the NFL and one in the CFL.
AFL 2007 (Dallas): Thurman finished the season as the team's third-leading receiver, making 65 receptions for 839 yards (12.9 avg.) and 19 touchdowns, starting 14 of the 16 games he played. Thurman made his first career AFL start at New York (3/4) and had five receptions for 69 yards and two touchdowns. At Orlando (3/26) he tied for second on the team with five receptions for 49 yards and one touchdown. Thurman notched his first career 100-yard receiving game with 109 yards on seven catches with two touchdowns. He made one catch for a 26-yard touchdown against Philadelphia (4/16). Thurman registered five receptions for 66 yards and two touchdowns at Georgia (4/21). He posted his second 100-yard receiving game of the season against Nashville (4/27) when he had five catches for 101 yards and a touchdown. At Utah (5/4) Thurman posted three catches for 11 yards and one touchdown. He had five catches for 70 yards and one touchdown against Chicago (5/14). Thurman registered a season-high eight catches for 96 yards and one touchdown at Columbus (5/26). At Philadelphia (6/1) he hauled in three receptions for 63 yards, including a 49-yard touchdown reception which established a club record. Thurman tied his season-highs in catches (eight) and touchdowns (two) against New Orleans (6/9), while also adding 86 yards. He had three receptions for 22 yards and two touchdowns against New York (6/16). Thurman had four receptions for 52 yards and two touchdowns while also adding his first career rush for four yards at Colorado (6/25). He was inactive in the Divisional Playoff Game against Columbus (7/7).
OTHER PRO EXPERIENCE: 2006 - Thurman signed with the Winnipeg Blue Bombers of the CFL where he recorded 40 receptions for 426 yards and a touchdown. 2005 - Thurman returned to the Green Bay Packers but was released at the end of training camp. He signed with the Tennessee Titans on Sept. 11 and saw time in five games and returned nine punts 31 yards and two kickoffs 42 yards. He was released by the Titans Oct. 24 and claimed by Green Bay the next day. He saw time in 10 games - logging one start - with the Packers and caught seven passes for 92 yards and returned eight kickoffs 136 yards. 2004 - Thurman signed with the N.Y. Giants as a rookie free agent following the NFL Draft but was released prior to training camp. He then signed with the Houston Texans but was released at the end of camp. He signed to the Green Bay Packers practice squad where he remained until signing to the active roster Dec. 23. He played in the Packers final two regular season games and logged two catches for 12 yards and three kickoff returns for 59 yards. He also saw time in their playoff game as a reserve, but did not record a catch.
COLLEGE: Thurman finished his collegiate career at Southern Oregon after transferring from the University of Arizona as a three-year letterman. As a senior at Southern Oregon, Thurman started eight games and led the Raiders with 55 receptions for 845 yards and four touchdowns while adding four rushes for 25 yards and a touchdown, eight punt returns for 105 yards (team-best 13.1-yard average) and 15 kickoffs for 330 yards, including a 92-yard return for a touchdown. In three seasons at Arizona, Thurman caught 105 passes for 1,530 yards and five touchdowns while returning three punts for 93 yards and a touchdown and 27 kickoffs for 497 yards.
PERSONAL: D'Andrae Carnell Thurman was an all-state selection as a senior receiver and cornerback at West View High School in Phoenix, Ariz. He lettered three times in football and basketball, earning conference Player of the Year honors in both sports as senior.
