Phill Penn joins the Desperados in 2007 as the team's assistant strength and conditioning coach. He is charged with the players' day-to-day in-season strength, conditioning and maintenance programs, while also working closely with the team's training staff in the rehabilitation of injured players.
Prior to working with the Desperados, Penn was with Velocity Sports Performance in Southlake, Texas (2006-07). Before working in Southlake, he was with Velocity in Alexandria, Va. from 2005-06.
Penn owned and operated his own sports performance facility in Dallas (2003-05) where he worked with youth, high school, collegiate and professional athletes in developing a strength program catered specifically to each athlete's individual needs. Penn was a Division I strength and conditioning coach at Episcopal School of Dallas (2005), Carrollton Christian Academy (2004) and Southern Methodist University (2001-03).
Penn has worked extensively with MLS, NBA and mixed martial arts athletes as well as Division I scholarship athletes and both former and current NFL players.
Penn earned a Bachelor's of Science degree from Prairie View A&M where he played football and baseball. He is certified through the International Sports Science Association (ISSA) and has his SSC (Specialist Sports Conditioning), USAW (United States of America Weightlifting), USA Track and Field and Nike SPARQ certifications.
